By train (LIRR)
Take the Long Island Railroad's Port Jefferson line from Penn Station in Manhattan (or Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn) to Stony Brook. Trains to and from Penn generally require transfers at Jamaica or Huntington. Hicksville is also a transfer point on some lines. Find schedule and fare information here.
The LIRR station is at the north end of the campus; you can take the free Outer Loop bus from there to the Student Activities Center (last stop) – it runs every 30 minutes on Saturdays. If you don't feel like waiting, it's actually not a long walk – you can get to the SAC in 10-15 minutes. This map may be helpful to look at. (You can find more campus maps here.)
